4 Days of Needlework Classes
in Historic Charleston, South Carolina
Enjoy a true sewing vacation with four days full of stitching, sightseeing, and Southern cuisine.
Meet old friends or make new ones while learning techniques reflecting the grace and charm of the Old South.
Laura Jenkins Thompson began sharing her beautiful city's charm along with needlework classes especially designed to reflect the grace and elegance of Charleston in 1996. The workshop is held twice a year, in August and February."Stitchin' Charleston Style" features 4 different 6 hour classes with the goal of a finished project. No sewing machines are required and all complete kits are included. The workshop is limited to no more than 25 ladies.
Classes are held at the beautiful Francis Marion Hotel, built in 1924, located in the Historic District on the corner of King and Calhoun Streets. All lunches are catered and feature specialties of the Low Country. Classes begin at 8:30 am and end each day by 3:30 pm (with an hour for lunch) so that there is time to relax and enjoy the sight-seeing events and scrumptious dinners planned for each evening. Classes are held in the Calhoun Ballroom, which is open, spacious, and well-lighted. Also, in the ballroom, a market is open daily where needlework books, patterns, fabrics, linens, ribbons, specialty threads, heirloom sewing supplies, gifts, sterling chatelaine pieces, slides, charms, cameos, and other jewelry are available.
Since class size is limited, brochures are mailed to "Stitchin' Charleston Style" alumnae first and then to new inquiries. To be placed on the mailing list, e-mail at laurajt@laurajenkinsthompson.com. Please mention whether you are interested in attending the August or the February "Stitchin' Charleston Style" and be sure to include your full name as well as your complete mailing address. (The school brochure is too large to send via e-mail.)
